Commercial Excellence, Continuous Improvement,

Grede’s New Castle, Indiana, location celebrated two years of continuous work without a lost time incident. New Castle has been the standard for safety success in the foundry industry for two years.

“This achievement is a testament to our employees’ commitment to working safely every day. Their dedication to following proper safety procedures, looking out for each other, and maintaining a robust safety culture has made this milestone possible. This culture inspires us to strive for even greater safety achievements,” said Mark Brock, General Manager at New Castle.

Grede New Castle reviews safety items daily in their War Room meeting. They cover safety topics in pre-shift meetings, supervisors check in with each employee twice daily to ensure they work safely, and all managers complete weekly safety observations.

Along with Grede’s tactics, the entire New Castle team has bought into the safety culture that has led to this accomplishment. The best plan takes a cohesive group to achieve the goal, and this team in Indiana has been the catalyst for what it takes to run a successful and safe work environment.

Grede New Castle achieved two years of zero lost time incidents on July 29, 2024. They also reached one million hours without a lost-time incident on Dec. 13, 2023. These remarkable achievements are a testament to the collective effort and commitment to the safety of our entire team. They will celebrate tomorrow during an all-employee picnic and have also received a t-shirt and backpack cooler to recognize this milestone. Local media are welcome to attend the celebration.

“The best safety cultures are created when our team members do the right things for themselves and each other when no one’s looking,” said Cary Wood, Grede’s Chief Executive Officer. “Nothing we do is more important than keeping each other safe. New Castle has worked for years keeping each other safe – it’s what we want for all our plants and locations.”

When asked about what is next for the team at New Castle, “We aren’t going to stop here,” said Brock. “We aren’t going to lower any of our standards. Our next goal is two million incident-free hours.”
