History

Grede is headquartered in Southfield, Michigan. Grede began operations in 1920 when William J. Grede purchased Liberty Foundry in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee and named it Grede Foundries, Inc.

In February 2010, Grede combined assets with Citation Corporation to create the most diversified foundry company in North America. In August 2014, Grede joined HHI and Metaldyne to form Metaldyne Performance Group (MPG). In 2017, Grede was acquired by American Axle Manufacturing Holdings, Inc. (AAM)

Grede has grown through a series of acquisitions and now operates a wide variety of equipment in 10 facilities in North America with approximately 3,800 employees.

Grede specializes in ferrous metals: gray and ductile iron. Grede has helped customers build the backbone of civilization by providing castings for many of the products famous throughout the world.
